4 Months in 4 Minutes

A video montage of #2SecondsEveryday

As many folks know, I’ve been using the free app #1SecondEveryday for a few years now (on and off, admittedly). But it seemed like the perfect habit to pick back up for our trip, and thankfully, the app interface now allows users to capture or select two one-second video clips per day…because boy oh boy was it difficult to choose even two single seconds to highlight each day!

I decided to start this video montage at the beginning of April, because we spent early April doing all of the things that led up to our roadtrip: moving out, putting our stuff in storage, saying goodbye to family and friends, and flying to AZ to start looking for trucks and buying our off-roading gear.

In short, the last four-plus months have been a blur, in the best way. Sometimes I forget how quickly we moved around the country on our roadtrip, but this video really emphasizes that aspect of our travels. Nothing makes me marvel more at how fast time flies, though, than watching our nephew Liam grow up before our eyes (and over Snapchat and Facetime while we were on the road). It’s magical to watch him sprout up just over the four months of this video.

I hope it’s fun to see a tiny (and very fast) peek at many of the places we explored — and all of the memories we’ve cherished back at home, too, including:

  • Flying back to MN to spend a long weekend celebrating the wedding of Hannah and Teddy, who I’ve had the joy and privilege of knowing and loving for over 30 years and 20 years, respectively. Caitlin and I were honored to be co-matrons of honor and also trusted enough to give a speech, which meant so much to us.

  • Our annual summer weekend with Taylor’s lifelong besties and Edina crew at the Jones cabin in Alexandria, MN. We look forward to this chaotic weekend all year, and it always fills our cup to the very tippy top.

  • The very best surprise of Carmen and Danny secretly flying in from San Francisco for Josh’s birthday, and getting to spend a few days soaking up precious time with this busy, far-flung, and often jet-setting crew of St. Olaf and Ole-adjacent (lol) friends.

  • A belated bachelorette party weekend at a cabin in Danbury that was truly the perfect mid-thirties girls getaway: sipping aperol spritz, making delicious homemade meals, floating in the lake, and doing puzzles in our jammies. Grateful for these forever friends who make every era of our friendship the best one yet.

  • Lots of projects at the cabin, but mostly new garage shelves to hold all of our camping gear. We are fully leaning into our new status as “truck people” with regular trips to Menards and Home Depot, gleefully filling the truck with all sorts of stuff that we’d never fit in the Tesla or my tiny hatch-back. It’s fun.
